Its Time To Start Loving Yourself

During the month of February our thoughts turn to love with the advent of Valentine’s Day. We are bombarded with images of the ideal relationship. But what about the relationship we have with ourselves?

We often look outside of ourselves for validation that we are worth being loved. But how can you expect someone else to love you when you don’t love yourself?

We live in an age where there is a lot of pressure to conform to a certain ideal, whether that is how we look, what brands we wear or what we do for a living to name but a few. We compare ourselves to the edited lives that people present on social media and this can make us feel that we are either not good or loveable enough.

So how do your rise above all this pressure and realise that you have many characteristics and talents that make you unique and worthy of being loved just as you are. The following exercises are simple yet powerful in helping you change your self-image.

  • I am enough. Write this on your mirror, on your fridge, have it as a computer screensaver, place it wherever you will see it, to remind you that you are both good enough and worthy of being loved.
  • Keep a journal and at the end of each day write three things that you love about yourself. Whether this is about how you look, your personality or your talents and capabilities. Be creative and keep going. You will soon realise that there are many things about yourself that mean you are more than worthy of being loved.
